There has been an upsurge in the number of cruise ship bookings for ships setting sail from Dundee. Travel agents have reported that that the cruise bookings are up by nearly 227% from that of the year 2016.
According to Barrhead Travel, there has been quite a spectacular increase in the number of people electing to go on cruise instead of jetsetting to various corners of the globe.
It said that the firm has witnessed a massive increase in cruise ship bookings from 2016.
Dundee-based Ramsay World Travel has also seen a rise in cruise bookings of about 30%. Karen Musgrave, of Barrhead Travel mentioned that cruise lovers have been leveraging the advantage of maritime sailings from Dundee, thereby permitting then to explore the wonderful Baltics and Fjords right from their doorstep.
Karen said that they were overjoyed to discover that the cruise sailings from Dundee were on a high by 227% with the 2018 sailings very much in demand and selling out very fast.
Holidaymakers in the city had been booking many flights and people were quite keen for summer escapades to cooler climes abroad.
Ramsay World Travel, another travel agency has also reported a rise on sales by 18% year on year.
Dubai, Spain and the USA are some of the most favored destinations widely chosen by the cruise tourists.
Gregor Miller who is the sales manager of Ramsay World Travel said that the destinations are proving to be very popular, especially New York, Las Vegas and Florida. He said that there were new flights to Spain from Scotland and they too were very popular like the ones to Santander, Valencia and Vigo.
Both these travel agents have identified Bulgaria as one of the most crucial attractions in terms of short-haul destinations.
Musgrave said that Bulgaria was among the best-value European destinations.
He went on to add that the Mediterranean destinations continue to some of the biggest earners for travel agents. Particularly, Costa del Sol, Majorca and Salou are the favorites when it comes to couples and families eager for summer sun getaways.
