According to a report by the WTTC, the global travel and tourism sector directly maintains twice as many jobs as the financial sector and five times as many jobs as the chemicals manufacturing sector. The WTTC report of 2017 compares travel and tourism with eight other sectors, which have similar global presence and prospect.
The report shows that travel and tourism employs more people than the automotive manufacturing, banking, mining, chemicals manufacturing and financial services sectors. Travel and tourism generated a total of USD$7.6 trillion in GDP in 2016 and it is expected to grow by 4.0% per year over the next decade.
