Overseas travelers are being cautioned to visit Alice Springs as the mayor rejected mounting safety concerns in spite of the fact that the area went through various high-profile violent crimes in recent times. UK and Germany are issuing warning to the travelers in exploring the remote corners of Northern Territory town where rape and burglary are the common crimes.
To quote UK government’s foreign travel advice, ‘’ there have been some serious sexual assaults against British nationals. Take care in the town centre of Alice Springs at night.’’
German vacationers have been requested to be safe and be watchful after dark. As the government says, ‘’ repeatedly, attacks were also reported to foreign tourists (including armed robberies and rapes).’’
Cases of stabbing to death of a French tourist in the month of November in 2016 and the horrific rapes of German and Finnish backpackers back in 2012 are some of the much talked about incidents in Alice Springs. Few backpackers have claimed to have been the victims of carjacking and robberies. However, Damien Ryan, the mayor says that travelers should be cautious visiting any place in the world and Alice Springs is no exception. To quote the mayor, ‘’ you need to be personally aware anywhere you go. Alice Springs is a very harmonious place. A quarter of the populations have come to live in Alice from other parts of the world.’’
