The balloon has been built to carry 20 travellers at a time inside a Kevlar gondola. Thomas Kaminski from New Zealand’s Kiwi Riders has tried to introduce the fun ride to the travellers several times in the past but the authorities have been classifying the balloon as an aircraft. Thus, the proposal to introduce the balloon has got rejected several times as it could not fulfil the aviation regulations.
It has been found that the balloon can carry the passengers up and down almost six times within just an hour.
Kaminski has informed that they have petitioned the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) and have had it re-classified as a recreational device. He has also stated that for it to be aircraft they would have to launch it in Rotorua and land it in Taupo and that could never happen because it is tethered to the ground.
He has informed that the Orbserver will carry 20 travellers in the sky over Rotorua after an interval of almost 10-20 minutes, where the riders will be harnessed in the gondola, which is circular in shape.
Daredevils can also opt for the ‘Orbster’, which will harness the riders and hang them outside the round gondola from the suspension ropes of the Orbserver.
Kaminski has informed that the balloon is tough and it follows safety standards to avoid any mishap. He also says that the ride is appropriate for travellers of all ages and because of the non-flammable helium, there will not be any chances of explosions or fire.
The bright yellow balloon along with the red gondola, decorated with internal lighting, is bound to make the journey magical.
