travelportTravelport, the leading Travel Commerce Platform, announced it has formed a new leadership team for the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). The change sees Dieter Rumpel, formerly Travelport’s lead in Germany and Switzerland, expand his role to cover Austria and become Regional Managing Director for DACH, and Sabrina Schwab take on the role of Country Manager of Austria.

Rumpel has over 30 years of experience in the travel industry. He was appointed Managing Director for Travelport in Germany and Switzerland in early 2017, after 6 years as Country Manager for Switzerland. Since joining Travelport, Rumpel has continually delivered steady growth across the countries he has managed. Prior to joining the company in 2011, he held a number of senior management positions in airline, corporate and leisure travel, as well as the event and destination management industries.

In his new role, Rumpel will focus on bringing greater alignment and focus across Travelport’s operations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with the aim of enhancing the customer experience and driving adoption of Travelport’s award-winning solutions such as Travelport Smartpoint and Travelport CETS (Central European Touristic Solutions). He will continue to report into Simon Ferguson, Managing Director, Northern Europe.

As Country Manager for Austria, Schwab will be responsible for managing Travelport’s local operations in the country and accelerating its growth through introducing new initiatives that meet and exceed the evolving needs of local customers. She has been with Travelport Austria for 6 years, and has held a range of roles including Head of Marketing and Sales. Schwab will report into Rumpel and be based at Travelport’s office in Vienna, Austria.

Having successfully integrated TraviAustria into Travelport following the company’s acquisition in 2015, former CEO, Rudolf Mertl, and Deputy Managing Director, Hans Wildauer, have decided to leave the company to pursue other interests.

Simon Ferguson, Travelport’s Vice President and Managing Director for Northern Europe said: “I welcome Dieter and Sabrina to their new positions. These changes will bring a new zeal and focus to our DACH region. Dieter’s proven track record and deep understanding of the travel industry across Germany, Austria and Switzerland makes him perfectly suited to his expanded role. Sabrina also has the experience, skillset and determination required to drive our business forward in Austria.”

Ferguson continued: “I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank both Rudolf and Hans for all of their work with Travelport over the years. In particular, they have been instrumental in building Travelport Austria and evolving it into the successful business that it is today. I wish them both the very best for the future, as they pursue new interests.”

Dieter Rumpel, Regional Managing Director, DACH at Travelport added: “I’m delighted to take on this new role. There are a number of common objectives, opportunities and needs across our operations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and I look forward embracing these and helping the region progress as a whole. I’m also very pleased to have Sabrina Schwab by my side as Country Manager for Austria. With her strong local travel agency partner relationships, Travelport CETS reservation system knowledge and continued exemplary performance, I am confident that she will further cement Travelport’s leadership position in the local travel industry.

Rudolf Mertl commented: “I am proud to have led Travelport Austria through its change of ownership from Austrian Airlines to Travelport. We have accomplished a great many things in my team leading the business. I wish Dieter & Sabrina well in their new roles, and look forward to seeing the continued growth of Travelport’s business in Austria and the DACH region.”
