TripAdvisor has rolled out a new chatbot for Facebook Messenger that will allow users to access travel reviews and recommendations anywhere, anytime, without having to stray from the popular messaging platform.
The tool follows the same model as many of the others that have entered the market in recent months, except it has the vast TripAdvisor database of content behind it.
Furthermore, travellers get access to the booking pages of restaurants and activities that are featured during the conversation within the bot.
After selecting a destinatuion, travellers are asked a series of questions – or can click on popular categories such as nightlife, activities, drinks, date night, etc – as to what they might be interested in doing.
The bot then displays a carousel of the most popular items, where the user can then save the result, share or click through to the relevant landing page on the TripAdvisor desktop or mobile site.
The new feature also allows users to collaborate on travel planning with others since anyone invited to the chat can review the recommendations and cast a vote for their favorites with a simple “like.”
Although the app, which TripAdvisor has been testing for awhile, makes recommendations for hotels and restaurants around the world, it is currently only available in English.
As with other artificial intelligence apps, TripAdvisor hopes it learns more about individuals’ preferences the more they use the chatbot.
