The Trump Organization is in the preliminary stage to re-launch a long-stalled Dominican Republic luxury resort development. The statement was issued by Alan Garten, who is the general counsel of the Trump Organization.
Garten confirmed that the Trump Organization’s executive vice president, Eric Trump was photographed touring a site at the master-planned Cap Cana complex in the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana resort district on February 2.
The branding deal, signed in 2007 between Trump and the wealthy Hazoury family with stakes in airports, education and media, stalled out amid the 2008 financial crisis and a later dispute over Trump’s fees.
In a press release, the Hazoury brothers have said that their relationship with the president’s son as “incredibly strong”.
Other areas of the sprawling Cap Cana development have opened in recent years, including an Eden Roc hotel, boutique hotels under the AISol Hotels and Resorts brand, two golf courses and a large marina. The Trump Farallons have remained undeveloped.
The Trump organization’s renewed interest in the project indicates organization officials believe the activity does not violate Trump’s pledge to avoid new foreign development deals.
