In as many days, the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) has added yet another transportation option for passengers traveling from the Tucson International Airport (TUS). With an agreement reached, Uber will now be allowed to pick-up arriving passengers through the company’s mobile app. Official pick-ups may begin on Friday, June 17.
As with Lyft, another Transportation Network Company (TNC) available at TUS, Uber will be able to pick-up passengers from the same designated area next to the Rental Car Facility.
“This is great news for our customers,” TAA President and CEO Bonnie Allin said. “We now have the two transportation methods that our customers have been asking for. We’re happy to be able to announce that Uber can now pick-up TUS passengers.”
Passengers who would like to use Uber can meet their car and driver from the curbside at the Rental Car Facility near the shuttle stop for off-site car rental firms. It’s a short walk east from baggage claim to the Car Rental Facility. Signage points the way to the Lyft and Uber pick up area.
TAA officials have been working for months to find a solution to allow the ride service companies to operate at the airport in a way that works within the airport’s infrastructure and within the business models of these companies. TAA announced Lyft service on June 16 with Uber following today.
Uber joins a long list of available options for passengers needing a ride from TUS that includes taxis, ride-share vans, car services, Sun Tran and other services.
“We are very pleased to launch uberX rideshare pick-ups at Tucson International Airport and thank the Tucson Airport Authority for the support,” General Manager of Uber Arizona Steve Thompson said. “Now, residents and visitors from across Arizona and beyond will have the option to push a button and have the convenience of a ride when they land.”
