In the past five years Europe’s largest tour operator, Tui has cut down on the brochure production by 2/3 aiming to shun away the use of printed brochures in the UK by 2020.
In the year 2017 the production of the brochures was reduced by 7%, the figure has gone down by 2/3 since 2012.
Tui had announced the plans of ending the production of printed brochures in the UK by 2020 and mentioned in its sustainability report Better Holidays Better World that it was still an aim.
Tui has phased out of the traditional brochures and replaced them with improved digital infrastructure to cut the carbon emission from offices and high street shops as a part of its wider sustainability goals.
In 2017, Tui’s carbon emission was 9,694 from 1,600 shops and 600 agencies, also an energy-monitoring technology was introduced in the UK shop providing energy consumption data for each store.
Tui’s crusie brand Marella is also focused on implementing emission and environmental management activities to ensure an efficient use of engines along with the installation of energy-saving equipment.
