Tunisia recently conveyed apprehension on the ban on carrying laptops and tablets on any direct flights from Arabian countries and Turkey by UK and USA governments. It said that the directive will harm its economy. To quote Salma Elloumi, the Foreign Minister of Tunisia, ‘’ this is something that we will raise with the Foreign Ministry.’’
The measure has been described as anti-terrorist precaution by the US and UK officials. It was inflicted on electronic devices which are larger than smartphones. Majority of executives from Tunisia’s Federation of Travel Agencies believe that this ban will hamper the travel and tourism sector. Not to forget that the said sector only recently had started recovering slowly after the tourist attacks which caused many visitors to flee. To quote Mohamed Ali Toumi, President of Tunisia’s Federation of Travel Agencies, ‘’ As long as England maintains these restrictions on Tunisia, and from time to time consolidates them with similar decisions, this will have a negative impact on Tunisian tourism.’’ The ban also targets Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.
