As informed to the AFP news agency, French tourism professionals have explained that the number of French visitors who will go on a vacation this summer will be much higher than 2016 and they will visit more abroad, particularly the southern Europe and the Maghreb.
To quote Jean-Pierre Mas, president of Entreprises du Voyage, a professional federation who observed the bookings made with 850 French travel agencies and informed AFP, ‘there is a very strong growth in holiday intentions this summer. It is very clear, very significant, and it had not happened at this level since the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008.’ Southern Europe keeps on luring highest number of French as the continent has been acclaimed for several years. Spain is leading ahead of Greece, Italy and Portugal. Following are Tunisia and Morocco.
The Tunisian has started recovering as the destination was badly hit after the 2015 attacks, recording the largest increase in bookings (+ 211%), far ahead of Greece (+ 22%).
“Sales trends over the summer are excellent,” said Pascal de Izaguirre, CEO of the travel giant TUI France.
The group recorded a 39% rise in reservations for its clubs in Tunisia and 23% to Morocco. Greece attained a good performance with “double-digit growth”.
