Although tourism is an integral part of Turkey’s economic health and strength, 2016 was a bad year for the country. Visits to the country were down by 30%. Visits to Turkey are still down due to a spate of terrorist attacks this year as well. Turkey has a big task of reconstructing its image. The Western governments are strongly advising against traveling to Turkey. To combat that, Turkey is trying various methods to entice visitors, even using popular social media networks like Twitter. For example, Turkey’s beautiful beaches and tantalizing cuisine are being specially mentioned.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently said Turks abroad should preserve at least a week of their vacation time for tourism in Turkey, and they should even bring friends along. He said that Turkey needs new tools and new campaigns.
