Over the past few years, halal tourism has been engaging tourists from Muslim countries from over the world. Hotels in Turkey have been instructed by Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) to better serve the Muslim travelers.
By 2020, more than 160 million Muslim tourists are expected to travel globally and spend more than $200 million. After Malaysia and the UAE, Turkey is among the top three most preferred destinations for Muslim travelers from around the world.
Better halal tourism standards are being introduced at Turkey’s hotels. The TSE will ask five-star and boutique hotels to match to a series of requirements to run as halal establishments.
TSE said that a “halal hotel” must comply to certain standards including female-friendly swimming and spa areas, no-alcohol bars, proper prayer facilities installed with prayer mats and the direction of prayer indicated, the provision of halal cosmetic and sanitation products in the bathrooms and the serving of halal food. Hotels that have these standards are eligible for obtaining the halal hotel certificate.
According to a report, Turkey ranks third among the countries with the best developed ecosystem for halal travel. Turkey’s natural and historic attractions have long been a alluring force attracting tourists from around the world and in recent years, various tourism options have attracted tourists from Muslim and Arabic-speaking countries.
