Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Nabi Avci attended a tourism conference in Tel Aviv, and this was his first visit to Israel after ties between the two countries were normalized last August. While speaking at a press conference, Avci said that visits by Israelis to Turkey would increase surely.
He said that tourism is a great way of meeting people and strengthening connections with them and relations between countries can be improved. Avci said he believes that it is possible to increase the number of Israeli tourists to Turkey to 600,000 from around 260,000 last year.
After the flotilla incident, there has been a cessation of diplomatic ties between Israel and Turkey, and this was even more affected by the recent terror attacks in Turkey. All these factors affected tourism. Avci will also travel to the Palestinian Authority during his two-day visit to meet Palestinian Cultural Minister Ehab Bessaiso.
Israel Tourism Minister Yariv Levin said that this is a new era of tourism to Israel. Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Nabi Avci met with Israel Tourism Minister Yariv Levin at the opening of the International Mediterranean Tourism Market. Ten tourism ministers from around the world took part in this conference.
