Two Australians have died after attempting to click a selfie and falling off a cliff in a beach in Portugal.
The regional media reports have stated that a 30-year-old woman and 40-year-old man had fallen down the cliff at Pescadores Beach in Ericeira that is a drop of at least 30 metres to the ground below.
The National Maritime Authority told Portuguese news agency that the Australian couple appeared as if they were taking photographs prior to their fatal fall.
The captain of the port of Cascais that is a place based about 30 kilometres west of Lisbon mentioned that this couple had lost balance while taking photos with a phone.
Council workers had discovered the dead bodies early yesterday morning whilst they were sweeping the beach.
The couple is believed to have fallen from the top between approximately 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. local time. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed that it had been in contact with the family of one of the deceased but declined to comment on the death of the second Australian as per one of the leading news media agency of the region.
Autopsies are being conducted at the National Legal Medicine Institute in Lisbon, but the police have ruled out murder as a cause of death at this point.
In the ongoing investigation, police will be speaking to numerous witnesses who said the couple were sitting on the wall looking at the beach before falling.
