Two died as an Amtrak train was derailed while travelling from New York to Savannah, Georgia carrying 350 passengers and crew. The train was derailed just south of the US city of Philadelphia.35 people are said to have been injured. The accident took place after the train hit a piece of construction, a backhoe, mechanical digger equipment just south of Philadelphia.
Services have been suspended in the Northeast Corridor, between New York and Philadelphia, as a result of the crash. A passenger sitting in the second carriage said that the train was extremely bumpy and the windows were breaking apart when the train hit the backhoe, mechanical digger equipment that was on the track in Chester, about 15 miles outside of Philadelphia.
Local emergency responded immediately to the scene of the crash. Passengers who have not faced any injury were moved to the local church. The crash is now under investigation.
