The assault occurred a few hours after five policemen were killed in a shooting close to the pyramids of Egypt, outside of Cairo, a renowned tourist attraction.
Two German women were killed by a knifeman and at the same time, two other tourists at the Zahabia hotel were wounded due to the attack. Following the attack, the knifeman swam to a beach close by. Here, he attacked two other people at the Sunny Days El Palacio resort prior to his arrest, as per the security sources and officials.
The security manager at El Palacio hotel, Saud Abdelaziz told the media that the attacked had a knife with him and he stabbed his victims, each of them, thrice in the chest. Then, he had lumped a wall between the hotels before he swam to the other beach.
He added that two of the injured people were Czech and the two others were Armenian.
They were being treated at a local hospital. The Czech foreign ministry tweeted that one Czech lady had sustained just a minor leg injury following the attack. The motive of the attacker is still under investigation according to the interior ministry.
A security official told the media that the attacked was a man aged in his 20s.
He was clad in a black T-shirt and jeans, sporting a knife. The official further added that the assailant had said in the Arabic language something about his dislike for Egyptians, asking them to stay away, during the attack.
None of the groups have claimed responsibility for the killings of the five policemen.
But then, the attack bore a resemblance to the hallmarks of a small Islamic militant group known as Hasm that has been instrumental for similar shootings in the last few months.
Friday’s attacks are a harsh blow to the struggling tourism industry of the country and its economy.
