As of 11:00 p.m., the center of the typhoon was at waters about 340 km northeast of Taipei, and heading northwest at an estimated speed of 14 km per hour, according to the weather authority.
The weather authority renewed land and sea warnings earlier on Friday but cleared alert on the land areas in northern Taiwan and the island’s southeast sea areas on Friday night.
The storm circle will still influence the island’s northern and northeastern sea areas, as well as the northern part of the Taiwan Strait, according to the agency.
Offices and schools across northern Taiwan, including Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Keelung, were closed on Friday in response to the inclement weather.
And several airlines had canceled or adjusted flights within the island or for the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and parts of Japan.
