The Typhoon Lionrock hit Japan’s city of Ofunato on 30th August, and it headed towards the Sea of Japan via the island of Honshu.
The whereabouts of the victims and the details about their caretakers could not be found. The hospital was the home for patients with dementia. The hospital also got surrounded by debris and mud, which probably washed down from the nearby mountains. The typhoon also overturned a car beside the hospital.
In Minamifurano, several people got trapped in their houses and in shelters because of the Sorachi river.
The ministry of land, infrastructure and tourism informed that near the island of Hokkaido, two rivers caused destruction and broke the banks early on Wednesday, 31st August.
Iwate prefecture disaster management division’s official, Takehiro Hayashijiri informed that the police discovered dead bodies in the town of Iwaizumi.
The NHK informed that the authorities managed to find two more dead bodies in Iwate.
Yoshihide Suga, the chief cabinet secretary informed, “We’re making a government-wide effort to assess the extent of damage.”
The Japan government sent the military and the self-defence force for the rescue and cleanup operation.
