Typhoon Toraji has left a trail of deadly destruction, the landslides and floods have destroyed villages and washed out roads while hundreds of troops have bee n dispatched to clean it up.
In central Vietnam 12 people have been killed by the flash floods and the central Khanh Hoa province has been flooded by heavy rains over the past few days. Due to the tropical depression Toraji blew in from South China Sea that devastated a small reservoir and caused landlsides.
An official from the provincial disaster officer mentioned that around a dozen people were killed and so far while the search for several other were ongoing.
Hundreds of army troops were mobilized to help people restore lives and clear up the damaged roads.
The railway routes were interrupted and the main highway linking north and south Vietnam was temporarily blocked. Vehicles were submerged in floods and houses destroyed under debris.
The landslides rumbled down nearby mountains and the panicked residents ran away from their homes.
Nha Trang city resident Liem said that after hearing the huge sound of fallen rocks and after returning few hours later the houses were destroyed.
Last year typhoon Damrey killed 27 people in Khanh Hoa which is home to the popular coastal resort city of Nha Trang.
From May to October Vietnam is constantly hit by severe rain. In 2017 around 389 people died in natural disasters that led to the damage of $2.6 billion as per the official figures.
