Uber made an appeal at the Westminister Magistrates’ Court for license renewal, last year the officials had refused to renew the license considering the public safety and security.
Uber argued that it had made significant changes like improving the procedures for reporting criminal actions. The court will make further changes considering the changes made in the Uber account and then decide whether the company was fit to hold an operator license.
The court procedures and hearing will last for several days.
Justin Bowden, national secretary at GMB, the union for taxi drivers mentioned that Uber lost its licence in London because it refused to play by London’s rules, that were majorly focused crucial issue of passenger safety.
They will get back the license until it accepts that an ‘Uber’s way, or no way’ attitude to safety and its drivers will not exist.
In London 3.6 million passengers regularly use its app and has 45,000 drivers in the city as per the firm.
Uber has implemented a number of changes after it was denied a license to operate in London.
Earlier Uber logged complaints with Transport for London but now reports crimes directly to the police.
The app can be used by the drivers in the region where they are permitted to have a private hire license.
