In a bid to to raise the number of tourist arrivals from the current 1.3 million visitors to four million by the year 2020, Uganda has launched an aggressive marketing and promotion campaign, says Tourism Minister Ephraim Kamuntu.
“We should do everything possible to make our tourist centres very attractive,” he said, adding that the media could help make tourism their number one story.
Noting that the country is often referred to as the Pearl of Africa and has a lot to offer tourists which remain unexploited, he said that Destination Uganda should be made popular by agencies, media and the visitors.
“We want private sector to employ more people, earn more money, improve accommodation and acquire better skills,” said Kamuntu.
Uganda recently participated in the Berlin tourism exhibition and the country is aiming at improving its performance in attracting foreign visitors.
