Spacehopper, a peer-to-peer parking service revealed that London City has the highest parking fees of any airport in the UK, charging as it does £298.90 for a week in its long stay car park. This is definitely not any one-of incidents for London City. Airports across the UK – from Gatwick to Glasgow are now cheaper to hop on a short-haul flight than to park for a week.
Director of Spacehopper, Alex Walker said that the inflated parking costs really make the price of any holiday mount up. However, a spokesperson for London City Airport, which is served well by public transport, defended the parking charges.
The spokesperson said that the London City Airport is unique in its close proximity to central London and limited available space for parking. It is advisable for those who want to drive that they should offer free passenger drop-off and savings on parking of up to 66 per cent by booking online in advance.
Heathrow, which is the fifth most expensive airport in which to park a car, is under mounting pressure to deter passengers and staff from using their vehicles to travel to the airport. Unfortunately, some people do not have any other option but to drive to the airport and for those people exorbitant car-parking fees can add significantly to the cost of a holiday.
