unnamed (3)Prime Minister, David Cameron has announced the Government’s new five point plan to boost tourism across the UK spreading the benefits of one of the fastest growing sectors and helping to create jobs and rebalance the economy.

Delighted the Government has now recognised tourism as a vital industry, Peter Osborne, General Manager of both the Brudenell and White Lion Hotels in Aldeburgh, is confident the plan will help develop Suffolk’s potential as a top tourism destination and boost visitor numbers to the coast.

“Suffolk, and in particular the stunning Heritage Coast, has a huge amount to offer the visitor and is under two hours from central London. Here in Aldeburgh we have a thriving arts and cultural scene, wide beaches with some of the finest fish and seafood landed on the seashore, and a delightful mix of independent boutiques, galleries and places to eat.

“We look forward to working closely with local and national tourism associations to raise awareness of our stunning destination and maximise its potential. It’s vital to ensure visitor have the best possible experience every time so that they tell others, which in turn will create more visitors, and more jobs, strengthening local economies to the benefit of all society”, added Peter.

A new inter-ministerial group will be formed to ensure the right infrastructure is in place to make it easy for visitors to discover the best of what the UK has to offer. The group, headed by the Culture Secretary John Whittingdale, will focus on five key areas. These will include a better co-ordinated industry with all tourism business collaborating to grow the sector; skills and jobs; common sense regulation to improve the tourism offer; transport and the delivery of a world class welcome.

Tourism supports almost one in 10 jobs in the UK. As well as our large domestic tourism industry, millions of overseas visitors travel to the UK every year but many don’t go beyond the sights of London. The plan aims to open up new experiences and to enlarge and rebalance the tourism economy ensuring the boost is felt right across the country.
