The AtlasGlobal jet, carrying 121 passengers, was safely landed however, the nose of the aircraft was severely damaged shortly after take-off.
Minutes after the departure, just over 4,000 feet, the plane began being battered by the giant hail balls and shattered the windshield. The pilot then turned the plane to make an emergency landing at the Ataturk airport within 25 minutes of departure. All praises to the pilot who despite the severe weather conditions landed the airplane at Ataturk airport.
The storm over Istanbul lasted just 20 minutes but managed to cause traffic chaos and flash flooding. Cars and buses were submerged. More than 7,000 emergency workers were deployed to help in the aftermath, which sparked fires across the city.
AtlasGlobal acknowledged the incident on its official Twitter handle after a post lauded the pilot’s effort. Akopov will soon be awarded the ‘Ukrainian Order For Courage’ in Russia for his bravery, the reports said.
In a media statement, the pilot told that he has been flying for 30 years now and it is the professional reliability.
