The Saturdays star Una Foden is ‘tops in Tipp’ after being presented with her home county’s Woman of the Year award in recognition of her career success and her winning start with The Voice.
The Shannon Airport sponsored ‘Network North Tipperary’ – part of the Network Ireland forum which supports women in business – award was presented to Foden at an event in her home town of Thurles this afternoon.
Foden was accompanied at the event by her husband and rugby international Ben Foden, the couple’s children Aoife (3) and Tadhg (four months) and her proud father and mother John and Anne Healy.
The award was jointly presented by Environment Minister and Tipperary man Alan Kelly and Shannon Group Secretary Mary Considine with Network North Tipperary President Joan McGowan.
It precedes next Friday’s awards night when three business women in the county will be selected Existing Business (again sponsored by Shannon Airport) as well as Emerging Business and Employee award winners at an event at the award winning Fairways Restaurant near Nenagh.
Receiving the award, the mother of two said that she was extremely flattered to be honoured as Tipperary Woman of the Year.
“It’s a huge honour. I really am humbled. I couldn’t believe it when my mother rang me to tell me they had called to say that I had won this award. So I really am honoured.
“Home is where the heart is and my heart is still definitely here. I move around so much because I am so busy with work and everything but I always still call Thurles home.
“It’s where my family is and I still have loads of friends here. It’s where I went to school and it’s where all my influences were growing up.
“I love coming home and am very proud to be a Tipperary woman.”
Congratulating Una on the award, Shannon Group Company Secretary Mary Considine said, “We are delighted to be associated with this award. Una is a great role model for women in business and was an absolute pleasure to meet. She certainly hasn’t forgotten her roots and is really down to earth. She was so pleased to have been honoured with the award.”
Said Network North Tipperary President Joan McGowan: “Una is a super example of someone following her dream. Whether you are in music, sport or business of any kind, success won’t happen unless you are as determined as Una is. She is a wonderful ambassador for our county and we are delighted she has accepted this award as our Tipperary Woman of the Year.”
