The 33rd edition of Miami Dade College’s acclaimed Miami International Film Festival scheduled for March 4 – 13, will host a French film sales market in collaboration with UniFrance on March 8 and March 9, within the overall Festival program.
As a prominent film festival that welcomes agents, buyers and press, the Miami Film Festival market event will consist of sales meetings between 28 Latin American distributors and 17 French sales agents, including Memento, Elle Driver, UDI, Versatile, Gaumont, WIDE, Kinology, Doc & Film, Wild Bunch, BAC Films, TF1 and Pyramid, among others. The market will also include market screenings of new French films at the Regal Cinemas South Beach.
“UniFrance is delighted to be organizing a market dedicated to French films seeking Latam distributors in conjunction with the Miami International Film Festival”, said UniFrance assistant general manager, Gilles Renouard. “We have long known that French cinema enjoys a warm welcome in Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil, and has more recently made inroads in Colombia and Peru.”
“With 21 French-produced or co-produced films in this year’s Festival, the impact of French producers for the audience in Miami is strongly felt,” noted Festival executive director Jaie Laplante. “We are honored to host Unifrance and further their delegates’ business interests within the region.”
“In 2015, there were more spectators for French films in Latin America than in North America. For a long time, we have been looking for a suitable venue where French sales companies and Latam distributors could meet. And now we have found it in Miami, neutral ground that is both multicultural and vibrant, where Latino and European cultures meet. Above all, we have found marvelous co-hosts in the Miami organizers, with whom we share the ambition of making Miami a privileged place where industry professionals can come together around cinema, and around French films in particular,” added Renouard.
