Dr. Taleb Rifai, the Secretary General of the UNWTO is in Greece since last Tuesday, since he has accepted the invitation of the Greek Minister of Tourism Elena Kountoura. Post meeting with the Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Mr. Rifai spoke at the workshop prepared by the Ministry of Tourism under the title “Destination Greece – 365 days”.
To quote Dr. Rifai, “Greece is a success story in tourism during the last 2-3 years, especially if we consider the special conditions and challenges the country had to face on all levels.” He stressed the fact that there is no competition in tourism and as more people come to the Mediterranean, the more will come to Greece as well. Dr. Rifai feels that Greece’s greatest asset is its people, since they make visitors feel at home. Dr. Rifai, however, said that Greece needs to grow up on its confidence and promote its success story.
