Presently, the Africa Commission meeting is taking place at the UNWTO General Assembly being held at Chengdu, China. The meeting is being conducted under the Chairmanship of Zimbabwe Tourism Minister, Dr. Walter Mzembi. Also being held today are the Americas meeting and Middle East, with Europe being held yesterday.
The chairman began the session by recognizing the victims of Hurricane Irma. The meeting was attended by the UNWTO nominee for Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili, Ambassador of Georgia in Spain and Ambassador Madam Dho Young-shim from South Korea, the Chairperson of UNWTO- ST-EP Program.
The General Assembly is the supreme organization of UNWTO, and its ordinary sessions are held every 2 years. It is attended by delegates from UNWTO Full and Associate Members, as well as representatives from UNWTO Affiliate Members. This meeting is an important global meeting of senior tourism officials and high-level representatives of the private sector.
