The Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Taleb Rifai, who is currently visiting Algeria, was received by the country’s Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal received yesterday (February 14th).
Rifai is on a working visit to Algeria as part of the launch of a UNWTO programme to strengthen the statistical capacity of regional countries for the 2017-2019 period, Bernama News reported citing a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister.
During their discussions, the two sides focused on the role of tourism as a factor of human development, especially in line with the proclamation by the United Nations of 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, the statement added.
Algeria’s Minister of National Planning, Tourism and Craft Industry, Abdelouahab Nouri was also present during the meeting.
The discussions noted that Algeria’s strong tourism potential is compatible with the same vision on the durability of tourism activities which are able to ensure the achievement of common objectives in the economic, environmental and cultural fields.
