The growing Chinese market in terms of outbound tourism has immense possibility for forthcoming days and this, in turn, has created “tremendous business opportunities” for vacation spots around the world.
As per a recent research conducted by the World Tourism Organization, in juxtaposition with the Regional Program for Asia and the Pacific in partnership with the Program for Statistics, Trends and Policy.
A thorough research of the Chinese Outbound Tourism Market trend reveals that China is the world’s largest source in terms of outbound tourists at present. In the report, UNWTO’s secretary-general Taleb Rifai observes that this growth was both in terms of the number of international trips and their expenditure.
“China has become a key source market not only for many destinations in Asia and the Pacific but also for destinations in other regions of the world which see a steady influx and growing interest from Chinese tourists,” he said.
Back in the year 2012, China was elected the world’s top spender in terms of international tourism. The country has ever since headed the global outbound travel. In 2006, the tourism expenditure from China increased from $24 billion (3% of the world’s total) to $261 billion, accounted 21% of the world’s international tourism spending.
In 2016, more than 1,235 million overseas tourist arrivals were recorded globally. As per the latest issue of the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, this was around 47 million more than the year 2015, or an increase of 3.9%. Europe has been the most visited region in the world with almost 615 million arrivals recorded last year. This was equivalent to half of the world’s total, followed by the continents like Asia and the Pacific, which recorded approximately 309 million arrivals or 25%.
