US Congress doubles H-1B and L-1 visa feeThe United States (US) Congress has raised the “outsourced fee” on highly qualified IT professionals by doubling the H-1B and the L-1 visa fee. Earlier the fee was up to $2000 but now it has been doubled to $4000. The fee was lapsed in September 30, 2015.

Applicants that employ more than 50 or more employees in the United States and if more than 50 per cent of the applicants are nonimmigrant, the fees will increase for them.

Until now a $2000 outsourcing fee was levied for H-1B visas and $2,250 fee for some L-1 visas, used for intercompany transfers adopted in August 2010 by the U.S. It was valid for 5 years and was not renewed by the US Congress when it lapsed in September this year.

This decision is will not be taken to well by IT industries of both countries. The discontent is however more on the H-1B visa process, by which big companies hire cheaper foreign workers.

This is part of the pre Presidential election move by the Congress. Politicians are asking for cuts in the existing number of H-1B visas. Most of the outsourcing to the US comes from the Asian countries.
