In the wake of recent attacks that comprised the fatal attacks at a café that is a favorite with foreigners and shooting in a mosque during Eid, the US government has issued a warning advising Americans to be extremely cautious while travelling to Bangladesh and review the risks before they do so.
John Kirby, spokesperson of the State Department said that this warning follows a travel warning that had been issued by the US government in the month of February 2016.
Kirby added that the US government firmly believes that the terrorism threats in Bangladesh were absolutely ‘credible’ and ‘real’ and therefore Americans should keep a strong vigil while in Bangladesh.
Kirby further added that people who are looking forward to paying a visit to Bangladesh should definitely weigh the risks and check it out properly owing to the ongoing potential for violence.
He also said that the safety of the American citizens is their first priority.
Yesterday, around 9.45 a.m., an explosion occurred at Sholakia Field based in the town of Kishoreganj during a prayer congregation at Eid. This attack closely followed the deadly attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery located in Gulshan area in Bangladesh on 2nd July, 2016 that killed 22, including as many as 17 foreigners. One of the foreigners who were inside the café was an American.
The ISIS has taken responsibility of these dangerous attacks in Bangladesh. They have also warned Bangladesh of more such attacks in the near future.
Yesterday’s alert asks Americans who are in Bangladesh to take stringent measures for security.
