In honor of the Group’s Asian heritage, Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC invites guests to welcome the Chinese New Year with a Year of the Monkey accommodation package, Chinese New Year afternoon tea and much more.
The Year of the Monkey festivities will begin on February 11, 2016 from 5 to 6 p.m. with a dynamic and colorful Chinese Lion Dance in the main lobby of the hotel. The lion dance performance is accompanied by the music of beating of drums, traditional cymbals and gongs, as well as beautiful ribbon dancers. Complimentary Asian-inspired canapés and tea will be served during the lively performances.
Chinese New Year Package
For a festive and fun Chinese New Year, guests may book the Year of the Monkeyroom offer just in time for the much-anticipated public debut of panda cub Bei Bei at the Smithsonian National Zoo. The offer includes two 24-hour adult passes onBig Bus Tours which provides round-trip transportation to the zoo, a Chinese New Year welcome amenity with traditional red envelope, internet access and luxurious accommodations for one night. Priced at USD 365, the package is valid from February 5 to 28, 2016.
Year of the Monkey Afternoon Tea and Cocktails
Empress Lounge will offer a special Chinese New Year Afternoon Tea Friday through Sunday in February. The tea service features a creative three-tiered display of sweet and savory treats paired with a selection of freshly brewed loose leaf teas. The menu features Roasted Duck Wontons, Curried Shrimp Salad on Miso Brioche, BBQ Pork Buns and more. Guests can also enjoy special Year of the Monkey cocktails such as The Monkey Gland made with gin, fresh orange juice and Kübler Absinthe as well as the Spiked Iced Soy Chai Tea with honey and spiced rum.
Chinese New Year Dining
Throughout the month of February, Muze and Empress Lounge will serveTraditional Dim Sum daily from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring delicacies such asFoie Gras Pot Stickers and Siew Mai with Black Truffle. Each dim sum basket is USD 12 or USD 14 per person for a tasting of all five items. In addition, Savory Asian Selections also are available for lunch and dinner daily which includesStir-fried Maine Lobster, Kurobuta Pork Buns with black bean sauce and crispy shallots and Herbal Chicken Soup with ginseng and wolfberries.
Also in February, all hotel guests with Year of the Monkey birth years (1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004) will receive a complimentary dinner at Muze. The Year of the Monkey birthday dinner is a USD 45 value inclusive of tax, service and not including alcohol.
