Usian Bolt had just won a bronze medal at the IAAF World Championships in the finals of the 100 meters race, which was his last. Edmund Bartlett, Jamaican Minister of Tourism said that sprinter Bolt is set to become the face of the Caribbean country after “The Legend” announced his retirement from track and field.
Bartlett said, “Jamaica has in no way lost confidence in his ability to represent the country as an ambassador and we intend to utilize him as the face of national activities.”
Barlett also said that Bolt had discussions with the UNWTO on becoming an ambassador for a November conference in Jamaica on “Building Partnerships for Sustainable Tourism for Development.” The tourism event will bring together air, land and sea tourism partners with more than 200 delegates from over 50 countries.
With the Caribbean Tourism Organization, the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association and the World Tourism and Travel Council backing the event, Bartlett said that “this will be a conference like no one has ever seen before.”
