Václav Havel Airport Prague has set record by attracting more than more the 13 million passengers in one year. Since 2008, 2016 was the most successful year. Back in 2008, it was known as Prague Ruzyně International Airport and its last best ever result was 12.6 million passengers.
Václav Řehoř, president of the Český Aeroholding, said that this is a significant milestone that deserves a big thanks to the passengers who passed through the airport, as well as all the employees, without whom this achievement would not have been possible. Although it was a busy year but did not indicate that it would cross 13 million passengers.
In 2015, the airport handled 12.03 million passengers, which was a growth of 7.9 percent over the previous year. In the first half of 2016, the airport handled nearly 5.6 million passengers, an increase of 355,000 people over the same period of 2015. Roughly one-third are people from the Czech Republic. Travellers can transfer to 105 locations in 39 countries from Prague Ruzyně International Airport.
It was since May 2016 that the airport began handling A380 passenger jets operated by Emirates which is now the largest in passenger service. The year also saw the introduction of new routes such as direct service from Shanghai to Prague by China Eastern Airlines. The current winter schedule offers connections to 11 new destinations in seven countries.
