From 15th July onwards, yoga mats would be rolled out by the airport for Yoga sessions that would continue till 26th August for a pilot program. Passengers would be encouraged to indulge in Yoga sessions utilizing the terminal of domestic departures on Friday afternoons for four hours. The airport has launched the Yoga event in partnership with YYoga, an organization that operates numerous Yoga centres in Canada.
The initiative would offer passengers a comfortable space that they can utilize to practice some stretching exercises, meditation and Yoga suited to their requirements, said the manager of sales, Kim Halowski, Vancouver International Airport.
This is the first Canadian airport to start such a unique service. However, several western airports follow this healthy practice. The airport of San Francisco claims that it had launched this service in the year 2012. And, airports in South Dakota, Burlington, Vermont, Dallas and Chicago have all adopted this practice.
European airports like those in Helsinki, London and Frankfurt have also opened Yoga spaces for passengers this year. Halowski said that after the pilot program would be over by August, the authorities of Vancouver Airport would assess the response and decide if it would be better to introduce the concept more frequently, on a regular basis.
Halowski added that an instructor of YYoga would be present to attend to the queries of travelers and suggest stretches and exercises that are helpful during traveling. YYoga would provide the Yoga mats for travelers need not register to avail of this opportunity.
Berk Kansu of YYoga spoke about the various benefits of Yoga for travelers, including its ability to help people relax and feel rejuvenated.
