Vancouver International Airport welcomed 25.9 million passengers in 2018

Vancouver International Airport managed 25.9 million passengers, and handled 338,000 tonnes of cargo in 2018.  It shows  record 25,936,907 passengers passed through the airport in 2018. It is about 7.3 per cent more than the 24,166,122 passengers that passed through the airport in 2017.

There was a record 338,000 tonnes of product that was shipped through Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in 2018 – an 8.1 per cent increase compared with 2017.

Visits from domestic travellers that include travel to and from the U.S. as well as Canada – were up 6.1 per cent year over year, while arrivals from travellers coming or going to other parts of the world increased 8.5 per cent.

The airport’s passenger growth is fuelled by an increasing number of flights as well as new routes. Ranked by passengers, Air Canada is the largest airline at YVR.

The Asia Pacific region saw maximum rise in passengers, with a 9.6 per cent increase, to 4,465,253. Europe, saw a 9.4 per cent increase, to 1,754,538 passengers.

The airport years had set a goal to reach the 25-million passenger mark by 2020, which they achieved two years ahead of the schedule. It can service more than 29 million passengers in 2020 and 32 million passengers by 2022, as per its projections.

The Vancouver Airport Authority plans to invest U.S. dollars 9.1 billion at YVR as part of an expansion program. Initiatives include 75 major capital-improvement projects scheduled over the next 20 years.
