Mars Stadium Ballarat in Victoria has been officially opened. Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford and Member for Wendouree Sharon Knight marked the occasion in the lead up to the stadium’s first AFL match.
Mars Stadium Ballarat will enable the region to attract international events and become part of the regular AFL season.
“We’re not just bringing AFL to Ballarat, we’re bringing footy fans and visitors from Victoria and interstate. It’s fantastic news for jobs, small businesses and our grassroots clubs,” Knight said.
The opening coincides with a community event launched on July 29th that brought local sports enthusiasts and families together to experience the redeveloped stadium for the very first time.
The ‘Eureka Grandstand’ was also unveiled for the first time – named as a tribute to the history of Ballarat.
The upgrade features a better playing surface with same dimensions as Etihad Stadium; capacity for 11,000 spectators; a new 5,000 seat undercover grandstand; new 37 metre-tall light towers and a new 50 square-metre video scoreboard and comprehensive food and beverage services.
