vietnam-trainA 30-year-old Vietnamese woman pretended to be hit by a train and then paid her friend to cut off a section of her arm and feet to gain more insurance claim.

The woman ‘Ly Thi N’ initially planned to gain more than $150,000 from the health insurance company, after she claimed to be hit by a train.

The case was being investigated by the police for three months and it emerged that the woman herself paid her friend ‘Doan Van D’ $2,200 to chop off her hand and leg to strengthen the insurance claim in the month of May. Doan later called the ambulance near a railway track in Hanoi and pretended to discover her in that state. The doctors could not reattach her limbs after the incident.

Nguyen Thanh Tung, Bac Tu Liem police chief informed, “N hired D to cut her hand and foot, then continued to have him report false information to the police. The greatest shame is that N, instead of claiming the money, has suffered a huge loss by losing both her hand and foot. Her case sends a warning that people should not attempt insurance fraud at the expense of their own health.”

The police dropped a criminal investigation against the two suspects for insurance fraud.
