Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh CityHo Chi Minh City received more than 300,000 foreign visitors in May, an increase of 3.7 percent over the same period last year.

The municipal People’s Committee said the latest figure brought the total number of visitors from January to May to 1.85 million — a rise of 5 percent year-on-year, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

The committee attributed the outcomes to a number of measures employed by the government to boost visitor numbers this year.

The city’s tourism sector has organised a wide range of domestic and international promotional events such as the Southern Cuisine Festival and the Southern Fruit Festival.

Books and maps have been published in English to help international tourists around town.

The city has also launched a website and hotline to provide tourism information.

The municipal Department of Tourism plans to improve the quality and diversity of tourism services including waterway activities and art performances throughout the city.
