According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, travellers from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain can go to Vietnam and stay up to 15 days with only their passports from July 1 to the end of 2016.
This visa-free scheme for the European countries by Vietnam has been aimed bolstering the foreign tourist arrivals in the next three years.
A Vietnam newspaper reported that the VNTA expects the figures from the five nations to increase by 50% in the next three years.
Vietnam received 4.7 million international tourists last year. Of these 635,000 tourists were from France, the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain which accounted for more than a half of 1.1 million visitors from all countries from Europe. These figures were posted by VNTA on the World Tourism Organisation website.
Vu The Binh, deputy chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association urged the government to put in more efforts to attract potential visitors from the five European countries viz. campaigns including cultural activities and promotion of tourist destinations.
