The flight initially took off from Brussels and it was destined to reach Malta. But the fight had to be diverted to Pisa eventually on Thursday, 3rd November as a heated argument turned into a violent fight inside the jet at the height of 30,000 feet.
It was found that an elderly woman had to move her seat after getting hit on the head after four ‘gypsy-like’ large men started to punch each other as two Belgian men tried to intervene. The men were also attacking the passengers around them and one of them even slapped a stewardess in the face.
According to the witnesses, the men were looking out of control as if they were under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It was also found that the men were eastern European and they could speak a little French.
Before the landing, the passengers had to help the flight crew to keep the aggressive fighters away from each other. Some of the passengers thought that the men were going open the doors, which might bring the flight down.
Some of the passengers informed that before making the emergency landing, the captain of the jet announced that the entire incident was ‘not acceptable at all’.
It took the crew and the other passengers almost 10 minutes to control the situation and the four men had to be restrained with belts.
The four aggressive men were taken into custody by Italian police after the jet landed in Pisa at night.
One of the spokesperson for Ryanair informed that this flight from Brussels to Malta diverted to Pisa after a number of passengers became disruptive in-flight and the aircraft landed normally and four passengers were removed and detained by police upon arrival, before the aircraft continued to Malta.
Ryanair also informed that they will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of the customers, crew and aircraft is their number one priority.
