Wedges of traditional Victoria Sandwich, scones and fruit cake baked by The Pudding Compartment, a Flintshire bakery that is a few metres from the Virgin Trains North Wales route; and British-made Neapolitan chocolates complete with a Union Jack design wrapper from Coronation Confectionery Promotions, a local company close to the Virgin Trains Blackpool route, will crown the Birthday celebrations.
Nearly 13,000 wedges of traditional Victoria Sandwich cake will be available to buy on board Virgin Trains and selected stations along the West Coast.
Scones and fruit cake will be served as part of a miniature Afternoon Tea at selected stations on Friday 10 June for the Station-to-Station Queen’s 90th Birthday celebrations organised by Virgin Trains.
Steve West, Managing Director of The Pudding Compartment, said: “We love having the chance to be creative and do something out of the ordinary with our products or packaging. We’re very proud to be serving our traditional Victoria Sandwich – named after another famous Queen! We’re also pleased to help spread a little joy on the West Coast, as we know the British are rather fond of cake.”
Nearly 18,000 chocolates have been supplied by Coronation Confectionery Promotions, as a small token for Virgin Trains customers to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday.
Andy Bradbury, Managing Director of Coronation Confectionery Promotions, said: “We have worked closely with Virgin Trains for several years and are proud to be working with them to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th Birthday. Our Neapolitan chocolates are British-made and complete with the Union Jack design on the wrappers, so are a tasty little patriotic treat.”
Amanda Smit, Head of Catering at Virgin Trains on the West Coast, said: “With the Queen’s Birthday celebrations very much a British affair we were keen to invite Coronation Confectionery Promotions and The Pudding Compartment on board to produce something special. We take pride in the products we serve and champion produce that is locally sourced, so we’re proud to have some specially-made sweet treats available on board our trains and selected stations for our celebrations.”
