The football club’s first match in the Championship will kick off at Fulham’s Craven Cottage ground at 7.45pm on Friday 5 August.
With Virgin Trains’ last scheduled service from London due to depart at 10pm, the train operator will now run an additional service which will depart King’s Cross at 11.17pm to help enable fans to get home.
The train will call at York at 1.31am, Darlington at 2.09am, Durham at 2.27am and arrive into Newcastle at 2.57am.
Emma Vincent, General Manager for Virgin Trains on its east coast route, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to arrange, at short notice, an additional later train from London King’s Cross at 11.17pm which will allow those wanting to travel to the game by train to get back home after the match.
“It’s very much a one-off at this stage but if it proves popular, subject to the practicalities, we would certainly consider looking at similar options for games later on in the season.
