Visit Mississippi Gulf Coast, the three-county tourism-promotion agency for South Mississippi had a fruitful and good year and its achievement was announced at the State of the Travel Industry annual meeting at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center on Thursday.
Executive director of the agency said that the number of visitors and room nights are more from last year and their goal is to get from 5 million visitors in 2010 to 7 million by 2020.
The agency is planning to attract more tourists by hosting new events, spreading the word, trying new promotion options, spreading hospitality, and using new technology. They intend to make use of social media for attracting maximum number of user attention. Don Welsh, president and CEO of Destination Marketing Association International said that South Mississippi should look at new ways to attract tourists by thinking outside the box.
