Visit Victoria’s chief executive resigns

Peter Bingeman has given notice of his resignation as chief executive of Visit Victoria, the state’s primary tourism and business and major events company. Mr Bingeman has overseen Visit Victoria since its establishment in July 2016, supporting the Andrews Labor Government’s Victorian Visitor Economy Strategy and related programs to boost tourism and enhance the benefits that the industry provides to the state. The Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula thanked Mr Bingeman for his leadership since 2016.

 

 

Under Mr Bingeman’s stewardship, Visit Victoria has performed as a world-leading tourism and events company that has strengthened Victoria’s position as the major events capital of Australia. In his time as chief executive, Victoria’s visitor economy has expanded significantly with expenditure reaching a record $31 billion.

 

 

The Labor Government has set a target of growing total visitor spending to $36.5 billion by 2025. Spending by visitors supports 232,000 jobs across the state, including more than 85,000 in regional areas.

 

 

Mr Bingeman will stay in his position until after the Presidents Cup, the latest of Victoria’s major events which draw thousands of visitors from around Australia and the world and contribute more than $1.8 billion a year to the state’s economy.

 

 

Mr Bingeman’s resignation will take effect from 17 December.

The Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula said that Peter has done a fantastic job guiding Visit Victoria in its crucial first years, helping to build their state’s very important visitor economy, and the government thanks him for his hard work and leadership.

 

 

Visit Victoria chair Janet Whiting said that as its first CEO, Peter has steered Visit Victoria to become a leading tourism and events company that has delivered record growth in Victoria’s visitor economy. The board of Visit Victoria thanks Peter for his leadership and wishes him the very best in his next endeavours.

 

 

Visit Victoria chief executive Peter Bingeman said that it has been a privilege to lead Visit Victoria and help grow our tourism and events industries over the past three and a half years.
