Visitor complaint puts Israeli tourism at major risk

Published on : Thursday, November 15, 2018

The number of visitors coming to Israel has kept on breaking records with new sources of tourism constantly under development, however many tourists have shown dissatisfaction of late in terms of their vacations in the Holy Land, Israel Hayom reported Tuesday.

Israel’s tourism industry continued witnessing major growth this year, with slightly less than a million (949,000) tourists visiting the country between January and March 2018.

This shows a 30 percent growth over 2017’s numbers and 58 percent more than 2016. This huge arrival of holiday travelers and pilgrims added NIS 4.9 billion into Israel’s economy.

Nonetheless, Yossi Fattal, director general of the Israel Incoming Tour Operators Association, cautioned that “the higher the number of tourists in Israel, the less their satisfaction is with the experience of visiting Israel.”

Israel is used to tourism crises associate with few tourists, but currently the country must get ready to deal with an embarrassment of riches — a tourist surplus. The country has to upgrade its infrastructure and quality of services, he said.

Fattal describes a depressing picture though of the service level experienced by tourists in Israel. The tourist experience is worsening, starting right from the airport waiting in line for passport control, which takes two hours at peak season.
