Wednesday, December 26, 2018

Favorite

Developing storm to put travel plans in disarray on Wednesday into Friday across the U.S. The low pressure centre will develop in northeast New Mexico and move into southwest Kansas by Wednesday night. This will lead to strong winds, rain and snow. It will have effect on the regional airports from Denver to Colorado Springs, Dallas and Oklahoma City, as well as Cheyenne and North Platte.

The winter storm will intensify on Thursday and Friday. The north-central United States will face the maximum onslaught of heavy rain, snow and gusty winds. Travellers need to rearrange their travel plans and keep enough time in hand to accommodate the weather swings.

Much of the East would remain dry with a few showers in upstate New York or New England. The rain showers may spread into parts of the South Wednesday night.

Wind-driven snow is possible in parts of the Rockies, adjacent Front Range and in the Pacific Northwest.

The northern and central Plains will witness heavy snow, rain and thunderstorms. This will spread to lower and mid-Mississippi Valley. Driving may be dangerous in parts of South Dakota and Nebraska.

Flight delays expected owing to several aspects of  weather  – Dallas (thunderstorms), Denver (snow), Houston (thunderstorms), Kansas City (rain), Minneapolis (snow or rain/snow mix, especially late), Seattle (rain).

Interstates that might be affected are – I-90 from Wyoming to Wisconsin by night (snow, possibly heavy), I-80 Illinois to Wyoming (snow and rain), I-35 from Texas to Minnesota (snow from central Iowa northward, farther south rain/thunderstorms), I-29 from Sioux Falls, South Dakota to the Canadian border (blowing snow), I-5 from Washington through Oregon (rain).
