West Dorset thrive at regional tourism awards 2018

West Dorset, England organized its own regional tourism awards night.

 
Four different businesses at the awards night were honored at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards as the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site shared the applause with Dorset and East Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs), which together won the exceptional contribution to tourism award.

 
Dorset House in Lyme Regis succeeded by winning silver in the bed and breakfast of the year as Golden Acre Holiday Bungalows won bronze in dog friendly business.

 
In small attraction of the year category, the Town Mill in Lyme Regis won silver and in the tourism pub of the year category, the Acorn Inn at Evershot won silver.

 
On Thursday, February 1st, the awards ceremony was arranged in the Arena at the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay. The ceremony was presented by BBC news presenter Victoria Graham.

 
Organisers explained that there was a ‘fantastic turnout’ with over 451 guests booked beforehand. In terms of regional gathering of South West tourism businesses, the event proved to be one of the biggest. For taking care of the England’s Natural World Heritage Site ever since July 2017, the Jurassic Coast Trust has been made responsible.

 
To quote Chief executive Sam Rose, “This award is fantastic recognition for the role our nature and landscapes play in helping to keep the South West a beautiful place with a thriving tourism economy. The huge value of nature is often overlooked as these landscapes are ‘free to enter’, yet they are so often the reasons why people choose to visit, live and work here, so are major drivers in the economy. As relative newcomers, the Jurassic Coast Trust are privileged to share in the award and to be seen as part of such an incredible group of natural spaces.”
